Invoicing glossary
Proforma invoice
A proforma invoice is a preliminary invoice sent before work or delivery, showing the expected cost — it isn't a final invoice or a tax invoice.
Proforma invoice: a clear definition
Clients use a proforma invoice to approve a purchase, arrange financing, handle customs, or pay in advance. It looks like a normal invoice but is clearly marked “proforma” and doesn't count as a tax invoice or a record of a completed sale. Once the work is delivered, you issue a final invoice.
